Argyle
18 Argyle St, The Rocks NSW 2000, AustraliaUpcoming Events
Started in 2007, Argyle is a huge, historic venue in The Rocks of Sydney Harbour. The Rocks is filled with historic buildings from the convict era, with many of the exteriors of those original buildings remaining. This can be seen in the low roofs and sandstone walls. As you walk into the Argyle through a tunnel in the wall, it opens up into the iconic courtyard. The dance floor is upstairs, where there is the RnB room and main dance floor area. The Argyle is one of the best clubs in Sydney. On weekends, expect to see girl dancers in elaborate costumes, the Argyle mascot, CO2 cannons and a top-tier lightshow. The Argyle mascot, wears a white cylindrical mask with a smiley face drawn on (the eyes are a bit scary) and wears stilts. Wearing stilts with such a low roof is absurd. Right next to the entrance to The Argyle is 'El Camino', a gimmicky Mexican restaurant that gets really busy for some reason. Because it uses the same entrance, it causes havoc at the entrance into the venue. There is a whole team of security at The Argyle, numerous checkpoints and several lines in the narrow, entrance tunnel. The check in process causes most of the line at the Argyle. It is unlikely to hit capacity on Friday, so if there is a line it is only for IDs/to check you in. There's a pretty strict dress code of smart casual. You probably couldn't get away with TNs, though many will try. Dress shorts or jean shorts, you'll be probably be fine in summer but your best bet is long pants and some good shoes. Girls typically don't have as much of an issue as blokes with the dress code. Expect to hear Top 40 commercial music, which is largely influenced by a bit EDM and RnB. Thrown in the mix is the occasional singalong throwback anthem. There is a designated room for RnB as well. The crowd is for the most part young with 18-24 year olds making up the bulk. However, it is a very big venue so overall has a pretty mixed age demographic. The crowd is very mixed and pulls from all over Sydney.
One of the busiest venues in Sydney, diverse crowd, commercial house and RnB.
