In 2008, he caught the attention of dancehall icon Vybz Kartel, who mentored him and brought him into the Gaza Music Empire. Popcaan gained significant recognition with the 2010 hit "Clarks," a collaboration with Kartel that celebrated the popular shoe brand. His debut album, Where We Come From (2014), received critical acclaim and showcased his ability to blend dancehall with pop sensibilities.
