About
Peaches is best known for her provocative blend of electroclash, punk rock, and electronic music. Her sound is raw, confrontational, and danceable — combining distorted synths, minimal beats, and bold, sexually charged lyrics. Often categorized under electro-punk or synth-punk, Peaches also draws on hip-hop, industrial, and performance art influences, creating music that pushes boundaries both sonically and thematically.
Born Merrill Nisker in Toronto, Canada, Peaches emerged from the queer feminist punk and electronic scenes in the late 1990s and early 2000s. After moving to Berlin, she released her breakout album The Teaches of Peaches (2000), which became an underground classic and established her as a pioneer of electroclash. Known for her radical stage performances, gender-bending aesthetics, and unapologetic sexuality, Peaches has remained an icon of artistic rebellion and queer empowerment. Over her career, she has collaborated with artists like Iggy Pop, Yoko Ono, and Kim Gordon, and continues to influence new generations of musicians and performance artists.
