About

Nadine Shah is a British singer-songwriter whose music blends post-punk, alternative rock, and art pop, characterized by her deep, expressive vocals and incisive lyrics. Her sound draws comparisons to artists like PJ Harvey and Nick Cave, combining brooding atmospheres with sharp social commentary. Across her discography, Shah addresses themes ranging from mental health and personal trauma to political issues like immigration and sexism, crafting a body of work that is both musically compelling and thematically profound.

Born on January 16, 1986, in Whitburn, South Tyneside, England, to a Pakistani father and an English mother of Norwegian descent, Shah began her career as a jazz singer in London before transitioning to her distinctive style of rock music. Her debut album, Love Your Dum and Mad (2013), delved into personal grief and mental health. Subsequent albums like Fast Food (2015) and Holiday Destination (2017) expanded her exploration into societal issues, with the latter earning a Mercury Prize nomination. Her 2020 release, Kitchen Sink, tackled gender roles and societal expectations, while her most recent album, Filthy Underneath (2024), offers an intimate look into her struggles with addiction and recovery, marking it as her most personal work to date.
