About

Marie Davidson is a French-Canadian electronic artist whose music traverses a spectrum of genres, including techno, minimal wave, synth-pop, electroclash, ambient, and industrial. Her work is characterized by hypnotic rhythms, analog synthesizers, and a distinctive blend of spoken-word and deadpan vocal delivery. Davidson's compositions often delve into themes of club culture, technology, and personal introspection, crafting a soundscape that is both danceable and thought-provoking. Her albums, such as Working Class Woman and City of Clowns, showcase her ability to merge pulsating beats with incisive social commentary, positioning her as a pivotal figure in contemporary electronic music.

Born in 1987 in Montreal, Marie Davidson has been an influential presence in the electronic music scene since the early 2010s. She began her career with the duo Les Momies de Palerme and later formed the minimal synth-pop project Essaie Pas with her husband, Pierre Guerineau. Davidson's solo endeavors have garnered critical acclaim, particularly with the release of Working Class Woman in 2018, which was shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize. In 2020, she expanded her musical horizons by forming Marie Davidson & L'Œil Nu, releasing Renegade Breakdown, an album that blends elements of pop, jazz, and chanson. Her 2025 album, City of Clowns, co-produced with Soulwax and Guerineau, continues her exploration of contemporary themes, critiquing surveillance capitalism through a fusion of techno and experimental pop.
