About

Masego, born Micah Davis on June 8, 1993, in Kingston, Jamaica, is a Jamaican-American musician celebrated for his innovative fusion of genres. He describes his unique sound as "TrapHouseJazz," blending elements of jazz, R&B, hip-hop, and electronic music. A multi-instrumentalist, Masego is particularly known for incorporating the saxophone into his compositions, creating a distinctive musical style that resonates with a diverse audience. His breakout single "Tadow," a collaboration with French artist FKJ, exemplifies his improvisational prowess and genre-blending artistry. His debut album, Lady Lady (2018), received critical acclaim for its sophisticated exploration of themes like love and personal growth. Subsequent projects, including the EP Studying Abroad (2020) and his self-titled album Masego (2023), further showcase his evolution as an artist and his commitment to pushing musical boundaries.

Raised in a non-denominational Christian household, Masego's early exposure to gospel music and his parents' pastoral influence played a significant role in shaping his musical foundation. He began his musical journey by teaching himself to play the drums, later expanding his repertoire to include the piano, saxophone, and various electronic instruments. After attending Old Dominion University in Virginia, he left to pursue music full-time, quickly gaining attention through platforms like SoundCloud. Masego's collaborations span a wide range of artists, including SiR, Ari Lennox, and Don Toliver, reflecting his versatility and appeal across genres. Beyond music, he has expressed a keen interest in fashion, often incorporating elements of his Jamaican heritage and personal experiences into his style.
